Modern Language Association

The Modern Language Association of America is the primary association in the United States for language and literature scholars.  The MLA publishes many academic journals, including Publications of the Modern Language Association of America (PMLA), and Profession, published online on MLA Commons.

The Pushcart Prize

Published by Pushcart Press and established in 1976, the Pushcart Prize is awarded to writers of poetry, short stories, and essays published in small presses.  

The National Book Award 

Established in 1936, the National Book Awards are awarded to authors of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translation, and young people's literature.

The Nobel Prize in Literature 

One of the five prizes awarded by the Nobel Prizes and Laureates, and is awarded by The Swedish Academy. (Other awards are in the subjects of Chemistry, Peace, Physics, and Physiology or Medicine.) Years included: 1901 to the present.

Pulitzer Prizes 

In addition to fourteen prizes given in journalism, prizes are awarded for fiction, history, poetry, biography or autobiography, and general nonfiction, as well as for drama and music. Prizes are awarded annually. Dates covered: 1917 to the present.
