Art and Artifacts

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture has the largest collection of work by Augusta Savage in a public institution. The collection of sculpture in the Art and Artifacts Division surveys art created mostly by African-American artists with strong representation of works executed during the Harlem Renaissance period (1919-1929).  Another collection strength emphasize artwork created during the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) period (1934-1943).
