Jazz at The Schomburg Center: Home

A library resource guide to materials and collections about jazz at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture

Introduction to Jazz Resources

This Jazz resource guide outlines archival collections, books, journals, and other resources at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture as well as the broader NYPL and NYC-area archives. The resource guide does not exhaustively list all resources related to jazz and jazz studies. Rather, it is a navigation tool to help researchers explore our holdings and begin researching at The Schomburg.

This guide is organized by research division and begins with resources from the Manuscripts, Archives, and Rare Books division before going into our archival media on the next page. On the Archival Media page, you will find resources from Moving Image and Recorded Sound, Photographs and Prints, and Art and Artifacts. The guide then highlights a few of the many resources in the Research and Reference division. This guide ends with outlining some resources outside of Schomburg, but by no means should be considered comprehensive.
