Genealogy Research with Maps: FURTHER READING

A guide to using maps available at The New York Public Library and elsewhere for genealogy research.

ABOUT

Genealogy is about names, places, and dates. And so are maps, although those names are place names. Below are a few suggestions for guides to finding maps. Remember though, you'll find maps in all sorts of places. General guidebooks to genealogy may include sections or chapters dedicated to maps. Many local and family histories, as well as historical city directories will include maps that might illustrate your ancestor's experience.
