Company Directories

Why use a directory?

  • You need basic information on a company.
  • You need a list of companies based on criteria which you define: industry, company size, location, number of employees, sales, etc.
  • You want to research the competition for your product/service: search by keyword or industry code fo find competitors or B-to-B prospects for sales or marketing.
  • For a job search: to customize and download lists of businesses and executives.

Directories can help you find  out if a company is public or private.  Why does this matter? U.S. public companies which trade on the stock market are required to file documents regularly with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission).  Information on private companies can be much harder to find. Directories, articles or news stories may be the main sources of information for some private companies.

Note: some of the resources listed here are available on-site only, at  the Business Center. ( 5th floor, SNFL,455 Fifth Avenue ) .
