There are several free and subscriber databases created to search for granted or pending patents in the United States or other countries. The following are freely accessible databases on the internet.
Espacenet (European Patent Office)
Database of patents granted by European Union member nations as well as the United States, China, Japan, Korea and other countries. Start with the Classification Search to browse the Cooperative Patent Classification hierarchy to find patents granted within an area of technology.
Patentscope - World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO)
Database of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications. See the page International Patents for more information.
Full-text United States (including pre-1976) and foreign patents compiled by Google.
