Visit the Reading Room

The collections described in this guide can be accessed in the Brooke Russell Astor Reading Room, located on the third floor of NYPL’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building at 476 Fifth Avenue.

The Brooke Russell Astor Reading Room is open to the public Tuesday-Friday, 11am-5pm and Saturdays, 1pm-5pm

While we welcome walk-ins, we strongly recommend reserving an appointment and selecting materials in advance of your visit.

Searching and Requesting Collections

Use the Archives Portal to search across The New York Public Library's archival holdings and schedule a research visit. 

  • In the “Detailed Description” tab in the collection guide, review an itemized list of materials to request.

  • In the Overview tab, click “Request an in-person research appointment.”

  • Register for a Special Collections Account 

  • Submit requests and select an appointment date using your Special Collections Account
