To address picture research demands during the early 20th century, portraits were selected from the Print Collection and categorized by subject. These portraits encompassed various formats, such as original woodcuts, engravings, etchings, lithographs, and, on occasion, photographs. Primarily, these portraits were derived from printed images extracted from periodical publications spanning from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. Print Collection Portrait File has been digitized and it includes images depicting personalities of Slavic and East European descent, for example,
- Tsar Alexander II
- Empress Alexandra Fedorovna, the wife of Tsar Nicholas II
- Anne of Bohemia, queen of Richard II
- Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
- Peter I of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes
- Jan III Sobieski, King of Poland
- Władysław IV Zygmunt, King of Poland
Joseph Muller collection of music and other portraits includes depictions of Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, and Bedřich Smetana to name a few.
