International Trade: Assistance Organizations

If You Are Exporting-

  • The International Division of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) acts as the umbrella organization to all federal export support programs some of which are listed below.  A local office can be found at SBA.gov/local or reached by email: international@sba.gov or by telephone: 855-722-4877.
  • SCORE is a free small business counseling service that serves the needs of businesspeople exploring the option of exporting their product or service.  The counselors come from a variety of professional backgrounds and can be met through either Skype or Zoom.
  • U.S. Commercial Service New York City serves the requirements of businesses already engaged in international trade but need further counseling in expanding their footprint or establishing sales/distribution networks in foreign markets.
  • Small Business Development Center at Pace University "partners with a range of State and Federal agencies in the area of international trade to help small business owners access the financial resources and technical assistance needed to export their goods or services."
  • Global NY (Empire State Development) assists New York State based business to export their products or services by offering their Export Marketing Assistance Service and administers the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) of federal grants.
  • The New York District Export Council, the local chapter of the National Association of District Export Councils, is a private volunteer organization of professionals employed in international business fields.  These include attorneys, bankers, educators, export marketing executives, insurance agents and federal and state export trade officials, among others.  Their mission is to advocate for the best conditions for small- and medium-enterprises to enter and thrive in exporting their products and services thereby strengthening the economy of the New York City region.
  • Organization of Women in International Trade - New York Chapter - Mentoring and networking organization for women engaged in various fields within international trade including finance, law, retailing, customs brokerage and logistics among others.
  • WEConnectInternational - endeavors to connect U.S. women-owned businesses to foreign customers.
  • Export Connect is a directory of export counseling services, marketing consultants and financing sources among other resources.

If You Are Importing-

  • SCORE can also assist importers.
  • New York City Economic Development Corporation promotes New York City as an attractive place for foreign and domestic entrepreneurs to locate their businesses.
  • Organization of Women in International Trade - New York Chapter - Mentoring and networking organization for women engaged in various fields within international trade including finance, law, retailing, customs brokerage and logistics among others.
  • In the New York City region you will find either the local consulate of a foreign country or the trade development office of some countries or even regions within some foreign countries.  Many local foreign representatives will assist you in importing products from their countries into the United States.
