Researching Magazines at The New York Public Library: DeWitt Wallace Periodical Room

This guide covers current and historical magazines at the 42nd Street Library, as well as resources for locating and conducting research on magazine titles and their histories.

The DeWitt Wallace Periodical Room

Room 108, known as the DeWitt Wallace Periodical Room, offers a diverse array of current loose periodicals, including current issues of journals, domestic and foreign newspapers, and loose magazines. The DeWitt Wallace Periodical Room is also a quiet study space with Wi-Fi.

The room is named for the founder of Reader's Digest Magazine, who spent countless hours in the Periodical Room during the 1920s, reading and condensing articles from the Library's collection. In 1983, the room's restoration was made possible by a generous gift from the Wallace Fund, established by DeWitt and Lila Wallace.

How do I request a magazine?

Readers can view the list of current loose issues of magazines from the last few years in the room or by searching in the Research Catalog.
