Slavic and East European Unique Collections

The New York Public Library holds numerous significant, sometimes one-of-a-kind collections of printed Slavic and East European materials. These collections encompass a wide array, spanning from old printed books to an extensive compilation of early Soviet materials, including those in minority languages. This guide lists materials with shared provenance (such as Russian Imperial materials), those issued by governmental bodies, publications from outside the homeland (like Russian tamizdat publications), and sharing a topic (LGBTQ+ materials). Also noteworthy are various pamphlets, boxed collections, and sets of microfilms, some of which may not yet have detailed inventories
