To explore  the Wallach Division’s Artists’ Books from the online catalog:

  • You may first conduct a “All Fields” search using the term “Artists' Books Collection”.
    • This search will retrieve all records within the Artists' Books Collection
    • This search will also allow you to enter additional words associated with artists' books, e.g. mail art, Fluxus, computer art, risograph, etc.
  • In addition, you may conduct a “Call Number” search using the classmark: MEMZ
  • If you know the name of an artist that created a book, you can conduct a “Subject” or an “Author” search using their: LastName, FirstName
  • Lastly, if you know the title of the book, you can search it by Title

Catalog Terms

Artists' books.

Books that are produced by artists and intended as visual art objects, and general works about such books. Works on such books produced in a particular place are entered under this heading with local subdivision. 

 

Altered books

Consist of works on existing books whose pages have been altered by paint, collage, or other media. 

 

Artists' illustrated books.

Contain books illustrated with original prints by well known artists and published in limited editions.

 

Fine bindings.

Works on custom bindings of books, irrespective of contents.
