Countries covered include Somalia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ghana, Cameroon, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ethiopia, Angola, Nigeria, Uganda, Malawi, the Ivory Coast and the Sudan. The collection includes political campaign posters, tourism posters, protest posters, conference posters, posters designed for classroom use and others. They were produced by a variety of agencies and corporations including the U.S. Government Printing Office, Afram, the OAU, various African government information agencies, the UN and its divisions, Anheuser Busch and others. Topics covered include history, politics, economic status and art.

They present maps of Africa; show portraits of political leaders or political candidates; call for the support of various political movements (including SWAPO, ZAPU, the National Resistance Movement in Uganda, the Pan African Liberation Committee, DTA, OAU, NPN and others).
