Digitized Research Books
The Library, in partnership with Google, has digitized more than 400,000 books from its historic collection. These books published before 1925 are in the public domain and can be found here in Google Books. Additional public domain books digitized from NYPL and other research library collections can be found at HathiTrust.
The New York Public Library has also released in beta the Digital Research Books search that has been developed by the Library. The project already provides access to over one million digitized books (representing approximately 380,000 discrete works), a number that will steadily increase by approximately 4,000 per week. These are monographic works that have been digitized from research collections around the world, including scholarly works, literary texts, and other primary sources drawn from existing sources such as Project Gutenberg, HathiTrust, and the Directory of Open Access Books.
Below are a selection of books that you can find through our various resources. They are separated by subject or genre of dance. Hopefully they can help you pass the time with a bit of dance fiction, and maybe even inspire your next research project a great history book.
