What is an earnings call?

An earnings call is a teleconference, sometimes also broadcast on video, hosted by a public company to report and discuss their financial performance as reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Companies generally publish a transcript of the call, as well as a copy of the broadcast (when one exists).
